During the tour students learned about the origin of the name "the Babyn Yar", which became a place of mass executions of civilians, underground fighters, partisans and others by the German invaders, during the German occupation of Kyiv in 1941-1943 years.Overall, during 778 days of the occupation of Kyiv at the Babyn Yar more than two hundred thousand people have killed, and not just because they were the Jews, but because they were the communists... or the partisans... or just did not like the German authorities... During the walking students also saw the burial place of Kiev during the Great Domestic War and the location of the famous dam that caused the Kurenivska tragedy 1961.
