September 21, 2017 in the Educational Scientific Law Institute for first-year students held a training seminar «Youth has rights», which is timed to the European week of local democracy and the International Day of Peace.
The event was organized jointly with the youth policy department of the Department of Education and Science, Youth and Sports of the executive body of the Kyiv City Council (Kyiv City State Administration) and the Kiev regional organization of the Union of Lawyers of Ukraine. The director of the Institute, Doctor of Law, addressed the seminar participants with a welcoming speech. Irina Sopilko. «Raising the sense of justice of society is the key to sustainable development of the country», she noted. Dmitry Parvov, Inspector of the Public Relations Department of the Kyiv Police Department, Alexander Fedoruk, representative of the Association of Ukrainian Monitors for Observance of Human Rules in the Activities of Law Enforcement Agencies, Head of the Education Division, Nikolai Matera, Chairman of the Kiev Regional Organization of the Union of Lawyers Ukraine. During the scientific event, the following actions were discussed: the algorithm of action in case of communication between a citizen and the police, the conditions of detention of prisoners and convicts in places of deprivation of liberty, peculiarities of the regime for serving sentences for persons who committed crimes against the national security principles of Ukraine, standards for keeping prisoners and convicted persons in institutions of the State Penitentiary service of Ukraine. During a coffee break, students and government officials in an informal atmosphere had the opportunity to discuss from the above issues, freely share their own observations of the state of respect for the rights of young people in Ukraine.
