On May 11th-13th, 2016 students of the Educational and Research Law Institute together with Viktoriya Cherevatyuk, the Director of the Centre of Air and Space Law, participated in the International Ukrainian-Polish-German scientific conference “Freedom of Speech and Mass Media in Ukraine, Germany and Poland” organized by the Institute of Legislation of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported by the Munich Institute for Eastern European Law.
The participants of the event made interesting reports on the effective state of freedom of speech in Ukraine, Germany and Poland. But the most controversial issues were related to the problems of freedom of speech in Ukraine, including the dependence of the Ukrainian mass media owners and publishers, low quality of training of journalists, fall in the advertising market which influences on the financial support of the mass media, restriction of press freedom, improper investigation of crimes against journalists and of course the information war. Participants of the event heard with interest the report of Tetyana Korzhenivska, the 3rd year student, on theme “Freedom of Speech in Ukraine: the Game of Democracy”, who clearly stated that without guarantees of freedom of speech, proper attitude to it of the social communities we will not be able to build the democratic state.
