On the 26th of November 2013 in order to celebrate the International Day of Disabled Persons, students of Law Institute and the Institute for Environmental Security held the meeting with the President of the Union of NGOs of disabled persons of Kyiv Alexander Crow and leading specialists of the National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine Oleg Polozyukom.
The meeting was held within the framework of the project "Ensuring the right to accessible environment for people with special needs", which aims - to create an opportunity for an independent social life of people with disabilities and raise awareness of the community in Kyiv on accessibility issues of the environment. Alexander Crow told the students about the activities of the Union of NGOs disabled Kyiv, operating since 1998. The structure of the Union comprises 12 NGOs that work with people with disorders of the musculoskeletal system and includes more than 2,000 people with disabilities. The main purpose of social organization is the active involvement of people with disorders of the musculoskeletal system of social and public life of the city and coordination of effective cooperation organizations for people with disabilities. Leading specialist of the National Assembly of Disabled of Ukraine Oleg Polozyuk with students considered one of the most critical problems that exist in Ukraine - to enable people with disabilities to lead a proper life, which includes hassle-free travel to the surrounding area, the presence of designated parking spaces for people with disabilities, duly hardware inputs/ outputs, affordable and safe arrival (wagon) in the room, no thresholds, wide doors, wide hallways, accessible to all floors in the room (elevators, escalators, ramps), the presence of accessible and adapted for disabled sanitary facilities, accessible for people in wheelchairs payphones, ATM, various vending machines; definition location (pinktohramy, scoring information). Today is very important to focus on the problems of youth support marginalized groups, people with disabilities and disabilities, changing social attitudes towards these people, respect and guarantee their rights and the need to introduce new methods of flexible forms of learning process for students disabilities.
