On June 3, 2024, as part of the professional introductory practice, the Head of the NGO "Center - Development of Democracy" Ella Lamakh held a master class on the topic "Security challenges and human rights" for first-year students of the Faculty of Law.
The speaker raised important issues of today, in particular: whether the philosophy of pacifism of some Western countries is a security challenge for Ukrainians today and how the practice of changing definitions ("war" - "conflict", "victim" - "injured") has implications for the political and legal system modernity?
The Head of the organization gave the students an opportunity to express their opinions regarding the components of security for people, among which the youth singled out: personal security, cyber security, environmental security, health care, economic security, public security.
"We very often forget about environmental safety, putting personal safety and cyber (information) safety first. But if environmental security is neglected, then over time a person will find himself on the verge of survival, when neither his own security or cyber security will matter", - stressed Ms. Ella.
During the conversation with the speaker, the students named the main tools that, in their opinion, ensure human rights: 1) true history (facts); 2) existence of a real civil society; 3) education; 4) advocacy; 5) ratification of international standards; 6) mass media; 7) local self-government bodies. The speaker characterized each of the named tools and provided an objective assessment of their state in our country, highlighting their weaknesses and strengths based on her own experience.
"Children are not our future, they are our present. Therefore, starting with the proper education of children, we form a healthy nation. You can't hide history and terrible facts, close children in a nice soap bubble. Only with the truth will we achieve the result when people start to act, transform, take an active position in life," Ella Lamakh emphasized during her speech.
