On May 14, 2024 acting Dean of the Faculty of Law of NAU, Doctor of Law, Professor Iryna Sopilko took part in a meeting of the working group of members of the Scientific Advisory Council of the Supreme Court and judges of the Supreme Court to discuss issues of the boundaries of judicial control in the application of sanctions imposed by the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine and introduced action by Decree of the President of Ukraine.
The agenda of the meeting includes the following issues:
the limits of judicial control over the adoption and implementation of decisions provided for in Part 2 of Art. 5 and paragraph two of Part 3 of Art. 5 of the Law of Ukraine “On sanctions”, legal and effective methods of judicial protection in relevant disputes;
subject, object and range of subjects covered by the scope of the Law of Ukraine “On Sanctions” dated August 14, 2014 No. 1644-VII. The effect of these legal norms over time;
the court's assessment of the discretionary powers of government bodies authorized to impose sanctions;
proportionality and proportionality of the imposed sanctions and their relationship with the requirements of Art. 1 of the First Protocol to the Convention for the Protection of Human Rights and Fundamental Freedoms;
judicial control over the implementation of decisions to impose sanctions and terminate their effect;
appealing against actions or inaction of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine as the holder of this register. The appropriate remedy for the inclusion or exclusion of persons from this Register.

By Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court dated March 30, 2018 No. 3, the composition of the Scientific Advisory Council of the newly created Supreme Court was approved, of which Iryna Sopilko was elected as a member.
According to the Resolution of the Plenum of the Supreme Court dated March 3, 2023 No. 13, the updated composition of the Scientific Advisory Council at the Supreme Court included 133 legal experts to prepare scientific conclusions, among whom, again, Iryna Sopilko.
