On 25 April 2024, the School of Law held a webinar for students of the Master's degree on ‘Peculiarities of financial monitoring in wartime and post-war times’, which was delivered by the School's stakeholder, Deputy Director for Legal Affairs at YouControl, postgraduate student Danylo Globa.
The proper implementation of financial monitoring procedures during martial law becomes critical to identify and stop financial flows that may finance terrorism, hostilities or other illegal activities. The financing of terrorism and collaboration can arise from a variety of causes, which may be combined or interrelated, and they may vary depending on the specific situation and circumstances. Understanding the causes of terrorist financing and collaboration allows for an effective development of a counter-financing strategy and a decision on which tools to use to conduct relevant checks. At the same time, open data is a valuable source of information for financial monitoring, as it contains up-to-date information on the activities of business entities registered in Ukraine,’ the speaker said.
Mr Danylo noted that in order to conduct an OSINT search, one needs to have certain practical and technical knowledge of the use of tools and specialised platforms. For example, the use of specialised analytical tools, such as YouControl products, allows you to build and visualise business relationships between companies and individuals from other countries, automatically identify risks and receive tips on measures to be taken.
Using practical examples, the students were shown that such technologies help to attract more relevant information for verification, improve the quality of analysis of the information received and improve the results of financial monitoring procedures.
In conclusion, the speaker invited the students to cooperate with the possibility of further employment at YouControl.
