On April 19, 2024, the Acting Dean of the Law Faculty, Irina Sopilko, the Head of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Olena Makeieva, and higher education students, members of the scientific circle "Current Issues in Theory and Practice of Human Rights," participated in a forum on the topic "Post-War Revival of Ukraine: The Role and Significance of Veteran Policy."
The event, organized by the leading research institution - the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine and the civic organization "Tribune of Women" with the support of the Ministry for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine, took place at the National Cultural Center "Ukrainian House."
The participants were welcomed by the director of the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Vice-President of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, President of the NGO "Tribune of Women" Natalia Onishchenko, and the Deputy Minister for Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Ruslan Prykhodko.
Speakers at the forum included the Deputy Director for Scientific Work of the V.M. Koretsky Institute of State and Law of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Professor, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine, Honored Lawyer of Ukraine, President of the NGO "Tribune of Women" Natalia Onishchenko; the Head of the Pardon Management Department of the Office of the President of Ukraine Dmytro Zhuravlyov; the Chief Consultant of the Coordination Center for Interaction of the Office of the President of Ukraine with the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine Elzara Shukurdzhiyeva; the Deputy Chair of the Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Nation's Health, Medical Assistance, and Medical Insurance, People's Deputy of Ukraine, Honored Doctor of Ukraine Oksana Dmytriieva; representatives of civil society, higher education institutions, and others.
During the event, three panel discussions took place:
Veterans and Civil Society: Ways and Methods of Interaction.
Programs of Physical, Psychological Rehabilitation, and Prosthetics for Veterans: Main Approaches.
Legal Status and Mechanism of Protecting the Rights of Veterans.
Participants discussed issues related to the protection of rights, freedoms, and legitimate interests of veterans, defenders of Ukraine, questions of legal communication of state authorities and civil society institutions, etc. Attention was focused on the formation and implementation of veteran policy as a component of state policy.
The forum contributed to the development of an effective legislative framework that should serve as a guarantee for changes needed by veterans under the legal regime of martial law and post-war recovery of Ukraine.
