On 26 March 2024, a methodological seminar was held at the School of Law for mentors and heads of academic groups on the topic "National education of youth: Current Status and Prospects".
The event was attended by: servicemen of the Armed Forces of Ukraine of the Cobra counter-sabotage unit, President of the Institute of Political, Legal and Religious Studies, member of the Coordination Council for the Promotion of Ukrainian National and Civil Identity under the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Doctor of Philosophy in Law Oleksandr Herasymenko, Head of the Methodological Work Sector of the Department of Scientific Support of National Memory Policy of the Ukrainian Institute of National Memory, Ph. Hanna Baikenich, Acting Dean of the Law Faculty of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Yulia Yurynets, Deputy Dean for Academic and Organisational Work Nina Trotsiuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law, Senior Mentor Victoria Cherevatyuk, mentors, group leaders and students of the 1st-4th years of the Law Faculty.
Noting the importance of the topic stated in the title of the seminar, Yulia Yurynets said: "The Russian aggression against Ukraine has significantly affected the national consciousness of Ukrainians, transformed our system of values, changed the assessment of the past and the attitude towards some significant historical figures. That is why it is so important to use various forms of communication with young people in order to understand their moods and vision of the factors that directly affect the further development of national consciousness."
A serviceman with the call sign "Hetman" shared his thoughts on the honourable duty of everyone to defend the Motherland, stressing the importance of proper preparation for such defence.
In her speech, Hanna Baikenich presented the main areas of work and tasks of the Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance and discussed with the students controversial issues of Ukrainian history and new approaches to popularising the past of the Ukrainian people.
Oleksandr Herasymenko briefed the audience on the state policy in the field of strengthening Ukrainian national and civic identity.
During the exchange of views, the following issues were discussed: education of the national elite as one of the main missions of universities; forms and methods of forming the national consciousness of young people; national identity as an important factor of patriotism in future lawyers; the importance of national consciousness of young people in the context of Ukraine's European integration; factors of development of national identity of young people in the country during the war; national idea as the core of national consciousness, etc.
Summing up the event, the Deputy Dean Nina Trotsyuk thanked the students for their activity and conscious position on patriotic education, which is an integral part of national education, the main goal of which is to become a self-sufficient citizen - a patriot of Ukraine, a humanist and a democrat, ready to fulfil their civic and constitutional duties.
At the end of the event, all those present honoured the memory of the heroes of Ukraine who laid down their lives on the battlefield defending Ukraine, including the graduates of the faculty Andrii Subotin, Maksym Oliinyk and Ivan Tkachov.
