On the eve of the International Women's Day - the day of struggle for women's rights (7 March), academic staff, postgraduate students and students of the Law Faculty joined the thematic online lecture "History of the 8 March holiday: from historical origins to modern perception", which was held by judges of the Constitutional Court of Ukraine Halyna Yurovska and Olga Sovgyria.
Kateryna Levchenko, Government Commissioner for Gender Policy, also joined the lecture.
"The idea of establishing International Women's Day was intended to draw public attention to the problems of women in the struggle for equality. In the twentieth century, International Women's Day became a platform for uniting women from different countries in a common struggle for their rights. It has played a key role in promoting the ideas of gender equality at the international level," said Ms Halyna.
The judges focused on the history of the International Women's Day, the stages of its evolution, told about the celebration of this day in different countries of the world and the resolution adopted by the UN General Assembly, which invited countries to celebrate the International Day of Women's Rights and International Peace on any day of the year, depending on historical and national traditions.
