On the day of the Day of Unity of Ukraine (January 22) - a great and historic holiday for all Ukrainians, a meeting was held for students of the Faculty of Law of the National Aviation University with the former Deputy Minister of Social Policy of Ukraine for European Integration, Expert on the Protection of Children's Rights of the UNICEF Office for the Regulation of the Needs of Refugees in Poland Oleksandra Churkina.
Speaking on the topic of the report "Introduction to the Rights of the Child, Historical Facts and Basic Principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child", Ms. Oleksandra spoke about interesting legal aspects regarding the formation and improvement of children's rights over the long years of mankind, and also focused on the peculiarities of protecting the rights of children who have become victims of Russian aggression.
"Ukraine was one of the first countries to ratify the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, which is called the World Constitution of the Rights of the Child. Over these thirty-two years, we have built a system of protection and enforcement of children's rights in our country, which today needs to be reformatted in connection with the full-scale invasion of the Russian Federation on our territory. We should follow the example of Europe, in particular in the friendly state for Ukraine - the Republic of Poland, which has provided shelter to many families, orphans and children deprived of parental care, as well as provided them with everything necessary for safety and further life," the expert said.
During the communication, students not only had the opportunity to exchange views with the invited guest on this topic, but also to make sure once again that they have chosen a profession that is designed to solve problems not only at the national, regional, local levels, but also internationally, providing proposals for improving the principles of international humanitarian law.
