December 8, 2023 students of higher education of academic groups 101b, 103b and 201b of the Faculty of Law, accompanied by mentor Lyudmila Shapenko, made a tour to the Museum of Books and Printing of Ukraine.
The students visited the largest book museum in the country, located in the building of the old monastery printing house, which operated from the beginning of the 17th century to the 30s of the 20th century, for almost four centuries. Museum expositions are presented by the treasures of the book culture of the Ukrainian people, which reflect history of the emergence of writing among the Eastern Slavs, the art of handwritten books of the XI-XVI centuries, the birth of printing in Europe, the activity of Ukrainian printers in the XVI-XVIII centuries, the difficult fate of the Ukrainian-language book and the development of printing in the XIX-XX centuries.
The museum collection consists of a unique collection of books printed in Cyrillic and Latin, among which there are such gems as the first Ukrainian printed book Apostol in 1574, the Ostrozka Bible in 1581, Pateryk Pecherskyi in 1661, the surviving works of prominent figures of Ukrainian culture, other book rarities, as well as samples of printing equipment - machines of the XVI-XX centuries.
At the end of the event, students of higher education had the opportunity to visit a book exhibition dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the birth of the Ukrainian art critic and book critic, honored worker of education of Ukraine Yakym Zapaska (1923-2007). Formed from the collections of the Book and Printing Museum of Ukraine, the National Museum of Ukrainian Folk Decorative Art of Ukraine, and the National Historical Library of Ukraine, the exhibition not only reveals the life and creative path of a famous figure, but also the history of Ukrainian book art, whose masterpieces are among the outstanding achievements of world culture.
