On 1 December 2023, Iryna Ustynova, Associate Professor of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of the Faculty of Law, together with legal scholars, educators and representatives of law schools of Ukraine, took part in a discussion of amendments to the Classifier of Professions in the part of the legal profession.
The meeting was organised by the Ukrainian Bar Association, whose members prepared proposals for amendments to the Classifier of Professions within the framework of the Project "Supporting the reform of the Classifier of Professions, Development of Standards for the Legal Profession in Ukraine".
"In recent years, the legal professional and expert community has been actively discussing the need to prepare a new Classifier of Professions in terms of the legal profession. This is due to the fact that the methodological principles and criteria that currently determine which types of professional activities are classified as legal professions in the current Classifier of Professions do not correspond to the understanding of the role and professional functions assigned to a lawyer in a democratic society," - said Andriy Boyko, Chief Expert of the Project "Support to the Classifier of Professions Reform, Development of Standards for the Legal Profession in Ukraine", Professor of the National University of Kyiv-Mohyla Academy, Chairman of the Subcommittee on Law of the National Council of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
During the discussion, the participants made comments and formulated proposals to the Classifier of Professions in terms of the legal profession. Once finalised, the agreed draft amendments to the Classifier of Professions in the part of the legal profession will be submitted to the Interagency Working Group on Reforming the National Classifier of Ukraine DK 003:2010 "Classifier of Professions" for consideration in the process of developing the concept of reforming the Classifier of Professions and its content in the part of the legal profession in accordance with the International Classification of Occupations.
