On November 29, 2023, at the Faculty of Law for of the bachelor'sdegree of the specialty 081 "Law", the inspector of the public relations department of the patrol police department of the city of Kyiv, police lieutenant Svitlana Onyshchuk held a lecture on the topic "Online risks and violence in cyberspace ".
This meeting was organized as part of the study of the class "Information Law" with the aim of increasing students' awareness of the main terms related to the field of online risks and violence on the Internet, as well as understanding their content from a practical point of view.
During the lecture, Svitlana Onyshchuk talked about the main types of risks on the Internet: risks related to content (perception of inaccurate or incomplete information); risks related to contact by adults or peers (harassment, discrimination, defamation and damage to reputation); risks related to contracts of and risks related to behavior (cyberbullying, exchange of content of a sexual nature).
The problem of violence in cyberspace, which is currently quite relevant, in particular, taking into account the conditions of martial law, is highlighted as a separate issue. After all, the majority of Ukrainian youth get their education remotely, spend a lot of time online, where, in addition to positive aspects, there is also a lot of negative stuff associated with the limitation of communication with the outside world in real time and risks in cyberspace.
At the end of the event, the police inspector described the current state of cyber security and cyber protection in Ukraine, talked about information security risk assessment methods, possible types of losses with the results of risk implementation (financial losses; reputational losses; violations of legislation/contracts; damage to personnel productivity; threats to life and health), as well as about a plan of preventive measures and an algorithm of actions for those who have already become victims of cybercrimes.
