On November 1, 2023, Diana Maistro, Senior Lecturer of the Department of Criminal Law and Procedure of the Faculty of Law, met with students of the 7th and 9th grades of Secondary School No. 52 with in-depth study of information technology in Kyiv.
The purpose is to acquaint students with the criminal law aspects of protecting animals from cruelty and to draw attention to this problem among young people. To emphasize that normal treatment of animals is an indicator of the moral health of the nation.
"The object of the crime of cruelty to animals is the moral principles of society in terms of attitude towards animals. The danger of this crime lies in the fact that cruelty shown to animals becomes the norm of behavior, extends to relationships with people, and plays a negative role in the education of young people. In addition, there is both administrative and criminal liability for such a manifestation of cruelty to animals," the lecturer said.
During the report, the speaker paid attention to the changes that have taken place in the legislation in the field of animal protection, the types of punishments applied to offenders for committing this crime, and also worked with high school students on the mechanism of action in case of detection of cruelty to animals.
At the end of her speech, the speaker offered the audience an interesting game "Right or false?", in which they had the opportunity to demonstrate the knowledge gained during the lecture.
