On October 6, 2023, the Law Faculty held a scientific and practical roundtable with the participation of international scholars and experts on the topic "Migration crisis and refugee status in Europe".
The Head of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law Olga Husar addressed the audience with a welcoming speech, noting: "The emigration of a huge number of Ukrainians due to the full-scale Russian invasion has become an economic and humanitarian challenge not only for Ukraine, but also for partner countries that have received millions of internally displaced persons. Tens of thousands of dead and wounded, millions of internally displaced persons and emigrants - all this has caused a real demographic catastrophe. This disturbing trend requires urgent measures from the authorities to preserve and further develop the country, namely, to consider who will actively live and rebuild Ukraine."
The roundtable was attended by international guests, including: Tudor Andrei Oros and Carl Morris, co-founders of The Online School, UAE. They expressed their solidarity with Ukraine and announced the launch of a new educational program for Ukrainian students. Other speakers included Nicholas Mohammed, a practicing lawyer in Canada, Erada Sadiq and Francis Soliva, an international corporate law expert and management and strategic leadership consultant, who outlined the current problems of the migration crisis in the European Union. All foreign guests shared their experience of implementing various programs of assistance and support to Ukraine in their countries.
Ksenia Prokonova, partner at Conflict Lawyers and migration lawyer, pointed out the difficulties associated with ignorance of foreign legislation and raising children in new conditions, and noted a number of problems that refugees may face when trying to return to Ukraine, emphasizing the importance of consular offices in this process.
During the discussion, the participants addressed the pressing issues of the migration crisis and its impact on modern society. In particular, attention was drawn to the status of refugees in European countries, and statistics on border crossings by Ukrainians were analyzed. The practical aspects of solving certain problems related to language, migration and asylum of Ukrainians in the European Union were also discussed. Postgraduate students actively participated in the discussion: Oleksandr Malysh with his report "Migration crisis and its impact on the functioning of local communities in Ukraine", Ivanna Lavronova "Positive potential of migration for the development of host countries", Oleksandra Ushynkina "Virtual assets as a tool to ensure financial stability of Ukrainian refugees in Europe: legal aspect", Andrii Kuzmin "The role of international financial organizations in providing financial assistance and legal protection to Ukrainian refugees in Europe".
Such events facilitate the exchange of experience and allow us to attract international support and jointly find solutions for the preservation and development of Ukraine in the face of growing emigration.
