On September 14, 2023, at the Faculty of Law, the Information and Educational Center for Human Rights, together with the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law, organized a legal educational event on the topic of "Council of Europe Day at the Faculty of Law" for students of specialties 081 "Jurisprudence" and 262 "Law enforcement" .
Within the framework of the signed Memorandum on cooperation between the Office of the Council of Europe in Ukraine and the National Aviation University, representatives of the General Directorate for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe visited the faculty - the international manager of the Council of Europe Project "HELP (Human Rights Education for Lawyers) for Ukraine, including during the war" Olha Kostenko and senior specialist of the mentioned HELP project Halyna Smirnova.
At the beginning of the event, the dean of the faculty Volodymyr Nikitin addressed those present, who expressed his gratitude to the representatives of the Council of Europe for the signed Memorandum and cooperation. "The National Aviation University is the first institution of higher education of Ukraine that concluded a Memorandum of Cooperation with the Office of the Council of Europe in Ukraine. Thanks to NAU rector Maksym Lutskyi, European values are becoming even closer to NAU and directly within the educational programs "Law" and "Law enforcement. We appreciate the support of our European partners! We are only moving forward!", noted the dean. декан.
During the event, Olga Kostenko told the students about the Council of Europe, its history and activities, and also presented the Project "HELP (Human Rights Education for Lawyers) for Ukraine, including during the war" within the framework of the Action Plan of the Council of Europe for Ukraine "Stability. Restoration. Reconstruction" for 2023-2026". Halyna Smirnova spoke about the list of HELP courses and the features of their completion.
Head of the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law, Director of the Human Rights Information and Educational Center, certified trainer of the HELP Project Olena Makeіeva, emphasized the relevance of studying the theory and practice of human rights protection using the HELP platform of the Council of Europe, shared her own experience of studying such courses and identified TOP-10 courses in the Ukrainian language (by the number of participants): Introduction to the ECHR and ECHR; Acceptance criteria; Asylum/migration; Internal displacement; International cooperation in criminal cases; Labor rights; Women's access to justice; Children's rights are key challenges; Ethics of judges, prosecutors and lawyers; Introduction to the European Social Charter.
