Volodymyr Nikitin, dean of the Faculty of Law, addressed the audience with an opening speech, noting: «In today's conditions, European values should be clear to every Ukrainian, as they unite Ukrainian society with Europeans more than even laws or interstate agreements. European values are worldview principles on the basis of which reforms are carried out in Ukraine and the legal culture of society is formed. It depends on each of us how we will move towards membership in the European Union and form an independent, social, democratic and legal state»
At the beginning of the event, participants were shown a video about the history of human rights, the evolution and development of generations of human rights. The main speaker of the meeting was the head of the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law, director of the Information and Educational Center for Human Rights, certified human rights trainer of the HELP program of the Council of Europe, Olena Makeіeva.
«Today, Ukraine's path to the EU is taking place at a very tragic time, when many Ukrainians who profess European values lose their lives defending the independence and sovereignty of our state in the fight against the Russian aggressor. We believe that Ukraine will win and become a full member of the EU, considering the price it paid on the way to independence and democracy,» stressed Olena Makeіeva
During the event, the participants' attention was focused on the concept and meaning of the main values of the European Union, including: respect for human dignity, freedom, democracy, equality, the rule of law, and respect for human rights. The speaker revealed the concepts and signs of human rights, their types and mechanisms of protection, international and national standards of children's rights, protection of children's rights in the conditions of armed conflicts.
Summarizing the results of the meeting, Olena Makeіeva gave comprehensive answers to the participants' questions and invited future applicants to join the friendly team of the Faculty of Law and obtain a legal education in order to protect human rights.
