On May 9, 2023, the Faculty of Law celebrated Europe Day for the first time in accordance with the Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 266/2023.
Aware of the European identity of the Ukrainian people, with the aim of strengthening the unity of the peoples of Europe, ensuring peace, security and stability on the European continent, testifying to the commitment to the ideals and values of democracy, supporting the initiatives of youth and other public associations, the President of Ukraine decided: to establish Europe Day in Ukraine, which is celebrated every year on May 9 together with the states of the European Union.
In accordance with this Decree, the Faculty of Law held a solemn meeting, at the beginning of which the dean of the Faculty of Law, Volodymyr Nikitin, indicated that it is now considered that the Schuman Declaration officially started the process of European integration. That is why the EU celebrates Europe Day on May 9, which is an important event in the calendar for both EU member states and countries in the process of European integration.
The event was attended by European partners of the faculty Tetiana Aker, adviser in the European Parliament (Belgium, Brussels) and Olga Kostenko, senior coordinator of HELP projects of the General Directorate for Human Rights and the Rule of Law of the Council of Europe. Also, the issues of European values and human rights in this system, the main personalities and institutions of the European Union were revealed in their reports by the teachers of the Faculty of Law: Oksana Myronets, Olena Makeeva, Lyudmila Chulinda.
Celebrating Europe Day in Ukraine is an important step in strengthening Ukraine's self-identification as a European state involved in the traditions and values of Europe.
