On December 8, 2022, the Human Rights Information and Educational Center of the Faculty of Law held a scientific and educational event on the topic «Human rights in armed conflicts», which is timed to the International Human Rights Day, which is traditionally celebrated on December 10.
The purpose of the event is to discuss modern practical issues of human rights protection in the conditions of full-scale armed aggression of the Russian Federation.
Acting Director addressed the participants with an introductory speech. dean of the Faculty of Law, Doctor of Law Volodymyr Nikitin, noting: «Human rights are one of the fundamental concepts of modern jurisprudence, around which there were and are discussions among scientists and practitioners. Today, interest in human rights issues is actualized in the context of Ukraine's aspiration to become a full member of the European Union, which is based on the values of the rule of law, freedom and democracy. The discussion of issues of human rights protection in war conditions is especially relevant.»

Natalia Ergard of Bogomolets; First Deputy Director of Research at the State Institute of Family and Youth Policy, Doctor of Law, Associate Professor of the Department of Jurisprudence and Branch Legal Disciplines of the National Pedagogical University named after M.P. Drahomanova, Honored worker of the social sphere of Ukraine Pavlo Horinov; the director of the Ivan Franko specialized school of the I-III degrees with in-depth study of the English language No. 92 in Kyiv (teacher of the highest category, senior teacher, winner of the «Teacher of the Year» competition in 2021 in the nomination "School Director" by Ruzan Solomakh; heads of departments, scientific teaching staff and students.
The participants discussed the following issues: the essence and significance of the HELP program of the Council of Europe and a special portal for legal assistance during the war in Ukraine; the role of the Ministry of Reintegration of the Temporarily Occupied Territories of Ukraine in modern martial law conditions; the role of the Ombudsman in upholding the rights of prisoners of war; features of state registration of acts of civil status during martial law; legal status of internally displaced persons and guarantees of their protection; provision of the right to legal assistance under martial law; the specifics of volunteering in Ukraine in terms of security and military challenges; judicial protection of the rights of an individual in the field of health care under martial law; protection of the right of military personnel who participated in hostilities to restore health; problematic issues of recording injuries resulting from armed conflicts in forensic medical practice; ensuring the rights of students during martial law.
Summing up the event, the head of the Department of Theory and History of the State and Law, Olena Makeіeva, expressed her gratitude to all the participants who, in such a difficult time, found the opportunity to exchange opinions on the topic proposed for discussion, gave comprehensive answers and recommendations to those present regarding the protection of human rights in the context of armed conflicts.
