On November 7, 2022, as part of career guidance work, Iryna Litvinova, associate professor of the Department of Criminal Law and Process of the Faculty of Law, held a legal lecture for students of the 10th grade of the Ukrainian College named after V. O. Sukhomlynskyi of Kyiv on the topic "Observance of children's rights in wartime conditions".
"In the conditions of a military conflict, it is almost impossible to ensure the rights of the child, guaranteed by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. The war negatively affects the rights and interests of more than 7.5 million children of Ukraine every day. Children faced violations of their rights to life and health, protection from violence, to upbringing by both parents, the right to education, citizenship, the right to know their parents and to have their own individuality, and others." , the teacher said, opening the event.
During the meeting, information was exchanged regarding the state of ensuring children's rights in Kyiv region, problematic issues and specific situations that require a response in the conditions of martial law were discussed. Iryna Feofanivna explained to the schoolchildren the peculiarities of international and national legislation on compliance with new challenges that have arisen in the field of child rights protection in connection with the war. After all, new categories of children who suffered from the war have appeared, which in turn requires the state to review relevant legislation and, in particular, Article 30-1 of the Law of Ukraine "On the Protection of Childhood", which defines the concept of children who have suffered as a result of military actions and armed conflicts.
Since Ukraine is in a state of war, the priorities of the central government have shifted to fighting and achieving victory. However, institutions of higher education should take more initiative and develop a career guidance program at the local level in accordance with the standards of the Ministry of Education and Culture, in order to familiarize students with the world of professions, to make them aware of the importance of each profession in the reconstruction of our state.
