On August 31, 2022, scientific and pedagogical staff of the Faculty of Law participated in the online conference «Dissemination of information during martial law, use of photos and video materials.»
The event was organized within the framework of the project «Freedom of Expression in Times of Armed Conflict», with the support of four organizations: Freedom House, the Institute of Mass Information, the Human Rights Platform and the ZMINA Human Rights Center.
Opening the conference, the executive director of the NGO «Human Rights Platform» Oleksandra Stepanova noted: «We strive to protect and develop human rights and freedoms, promote the establishment of free and professional mass media, implement educational and educational activities to promote the establishment of a democratic, civil society in Ukraine.»
Leading practicing lawyers in the field of information law and protection of journalists' rights acted as speakers: media expert Oleksandr Burmagin, lawyer, expert on access to public information Olga Vdovenko, lawyer, media lawyer, media trainer Lyudmila Opryshko, media lawyer, lawyer Yevhen Vorobyov.
The participants discussed the issue of legal responsibility for photos with scenes of violence and distribution of photo and video materials by the editor without the consent of the official; types of punishments for mass media that cooperate with the occupiers; the legal regime of the activities of local self-government bodies during martial law, the responsibility imposed on a journalist due to the dissemination of information that has the status of being restricted for publication in the mass media; the procedure for documenting consent to the processing of personal data and the transfer of materials to other organizations and institutions about a witness to war crimes. A particularly lively discussion arose during the discussion of the need for parents' consent to publish photos of their children in the media.
