On June 30, 2022, teachers of the English language project of the Faculty of Law participated in the international online workshop "Global Legal Skills Virtual Workshop Series", organized by the Legal Writing Institute together with the Faculty of Law of the University of Illinois (USA).
This event is dedicated to getting to know the USAID program "Justice for All", the purpose of which is to promote cooperation between Ukrainian and foreign law schools for the exchange of best practices.
During the plenary session, the main challenges facing modern legal education in Ukraine, ways of developing legal clinics and their role in training law students, directions for improving legal education in Ukraine, opportunities for students participating in mobile exchange, and ways to overcome them were discussed. problems that arose during the pandemic and with the beginning of the war in Ukraine.
After the plenary session, scientists took part in discussion groups devoted to consideration of the following issues:
- internationalization and modernization of the legal program in Ukraine: guest lectures, workshops, semester courses, joint teaching of courses, joint certificate/diploma programs;
- methodical support of Ukrainian law schools: mentoring and training of Ukrainian teachers, programs of virtual visitors, monitoring of experienced international teachers;
- cooperation on research and publications: access to legal libraries, global legal databases, support in publications in international legal journals, joint publications, international conferences;
- organization and promotion of peer-to-peer interaction between Ukrainian and foreign students, assistance in fundraising for Ukrainian law schools, etc.
Summarizing the results of the event, its co-organizer Mark Voytsyk, a professor at the University of Illinois, revealed the main ways of cooperation between institutions of higher education in the USA, Europe and Ukraine and expressed his support for institutions of higher legal education in our country.
