On June 9, 2022, as part of an introductory internship, first-year students of the Faculty of Law had the opportunity to virtually visit the Court of Justice of the European Union.
During the online meeting, spokesman Jacques Zammit spoke about the history of the creation and operation of the court, its work, structure, scope and mission. "The Court of Justice of the European Union was established in 1952. Its mission is to ensure compliance with the law in the interpretation and application of the Treaties of the European Union. You must first clarify for yourself the difference between the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) and the Court of Justice of the European Union. Thus, the ECtHR is part of the Council of Europe, which consists of 47 states, including Russia and the United Kingdom, and the European Court of Justice is the body responsible for monitoring compliance with EU law within its 27 member states, "said Mr Jacques. Note.
It is also noted that in its mission the Court of Justice of the European Union verifies the legality of acts of the institutions of the European Union, ensures compliance with Member States' obligations under the Treaties and interprets European Union law at the request of national courts and tribunals. The Court is thus a judicial body of the European Union and, in cooperation with the courts and tribunals of the Member States, ensures the uniform application and interpretation of EU law.
After the presentation, the students asked interesting and topical questions to the press attaché regarding the interaction of the Court with courts of other non-EU countries (Marina Dmitrenko), the relevance of the legal profession in European countries (Matviy Kovalenko), the procedure for enforcing decisions (Alla Ilchuk). etc.
In the second half of the meeting, with the help of a 3D tour, Ms. Anna Klaperstuck "led" all participants to the Court building in Luxembourg. Students had the opportunity to "go" to the courtrooms, "walk" through the corridors of the court, learn about the architecture of the building, structures and masterpieces of world art that adorn the courtroom.
It should be noted that the event was bilateral in nature, as representatives of the Court of Justice were also interested in the peculiarities of the National Aviation University, its structure and expressed a desire to visit the University in peacetime. We hope that very soon we will be able to invite guests to our university and to a peaceful, joyful Ukraine.
