On the 11th of April, Iryna Nazarova, Managing Partner of ENGARDE Law Firm, Lawyer, Member of the International Court of Arbitration of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC), Chair of the Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee of the Ukrainian Bar Association, held a master class on «International Legal Consequences of Military Russia's aggression against Ukraine».
The subject of this event was chosen not by chance, because with the beginning of a full-scale invasion against the background of mass bombings and shelling of civilians, blockades of civilians in occupied cities and villages, Russia's actions in Ukraine are classified as war crimes of genocide.
Speaking, Irina Nazarova revealed the types of international legal responsibility, analyzed the main provisions of the UN Resolution of the 2nd of March, 2022, which condemns Russia's aggression, the involvement of Belarus in the illegal use of force against Ukraine. The focus of the audience was on the main aspects of the Interim Judgment of the International Court of Justice (genocide case), which, in particular, obliges Russia to immediately cease hostilities. Interesting from a practical point of view were the issues of international forms in which Ukraine can provide effective legal protection against Russia: the UN International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court, the European Court of Human Rights and the establishment of a Special Tribunal for Aggression against Ukraine. All these forms should cover 4 types of international crimes: crimes of aggression, war crimes, crimes against humanity, acts of genocide.
At the end of the event, the speaker answered students' questions and gave them valuable advice on building a successful career in law.
