On 4 April 2022 the staff of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law of the Faculty of Law of the National Aviation University joined a lecture by Professor Roman Kvetnya on “Armed attack of the Russian Federation on Ukraine in the light of ius ad bellum, ius in bello and ius post bellum”.
The lecture was held in a hybrid format and concluded with a lively discussion and the opening of a series of new classes on Ukrainian law at the Faculty of Law and Administration at the Jagiellonian University for all students from Ukraine.
In the first part of the event, the professor provided a legal assessment of Russia's armed attack on Ukraine that began on 24 February this year and its legal consequences on an ius ad bellum perspective. The second classifies the aggressor country's armed actions from an ius inbello perspective, primarily in the light of international humanitarian law. “War crimes, crimes against humanity and genocide are crimes under most national criminal laws and international criminal law,” remarked Professor Roman Kvetnya.
The last part of the event dealt with the legal perspectives of Ukraine after the end of the war, in particular: the prosecution of the accused; the support activities of the international community; the reconstruction of the damaged infrastructure of the state.
The great support of scientists from all over the world has inspired the scientific community of the Faculty of Law to new scientific achievements and opportunities for cooperation and promotion of Ukrainian law and science in the international space under the new realities of wartime.
