On February 22, 2022, a lecture-debate on the topic "Activities of public organizations in Ukraine" was held for students of the Faculty of Law by the Vice-President of La Strada Ukraine, lawyer Marina Lehenka.
The lecturer considered the general activities of public organizations in Ukraine, described the types of public organizations operating in the country, determined the procedure for financing and receiving grant programs, international and Ukrainian procedure for state registration of such organizations. Students' attention is also focused on educational platforms that have 2 training courses "Resolving Conflicts and Building Peace Around You" and "Basic Skills of a Mediator in Educational Institutions". Creation and coordination of activities of understanding services from among students for mediation on the principle of "peer-to-peer".
“Public organizations are non-profit organizations, and by world standards - non-governmental organizations. One such organization that effectively operates in Ukraine is the non-governmental organization La Strada Ukraine, established in 1997 as an organization to combat trafficking in human beings and ensure safe travel abroad. Its main goal is to prevent various forms of violence and violations of human rights, prosecute, unify and develop counseling standards, study practices to further improve legislation in the field of promoting gender equality, combating domestic violence, etc.,” said Marina Lehenka.
During the session there was an active discussion between the participants, which focused on the priorities of the NGO La Strada Ukraine, strengthening educational activities on the ratification of the Istanbul Convention for the Elimination of Domestic Violence. Ms. Marina gave practical examples to demonstrate to students how the status of victims of domestic violence is regulated in Ukrainian legislation and provided recommendations on how to distinguish domestic violence from hooliganism.
At the end of the meeting, the lecturer invited students to work closely together to combat physical, sexual, psychological or economic violence.
