On December 1, 2021, a competition of presentations was held among second-year students of the Faculty of Law, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the All-Ukrainian referendum on Ukraine's independence.
Opening the event, Olga Husar, Head of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law, noted that this significant event in the establishment of Ukrainian statehood showed that 90% of Ukrainians supported the Act of State Independence of Ukraine. The referendum took place in all 27 administrative regions of Ukraine: 24 oblasts, the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Kyiv and Sevastopol. In Kyiv, 92.88% of voters supported Ukraine's independence, in Donetsk region - 83.9%, in Luhansk - 83.86%, and in the Autonomous Republic of Crimea 54.19% of voters said "Yes" to Ukrainian independence, while in Sevastopol the figure was higher - 57.07%.
Second-year students from all groups took part in the competition, preparing presentations based on interesting historical material.
Thus, students of PR-201B Tetyana Orlovska, Olena Savchenko, Daryna Yaroshchuk presented a ballot paper containing the text of the Declaration of Independence of Ukraine and spoke about the role of the referendum in establishing independence.
Vadim Tretyakov, Anastasia Lisyuk, Anna Gorbach, and Mykola Zelenchuk (PR-202B group) talking about the history and significance of the All-Ukrainian referendum, noted that new legislation on democracy is currently being drafted in Ukraine, as evidenced by the adoption of the Verkhovna Rada on January 26, 2021 Law of Ukraine "On All-Ukrainian Referendum".
Darya Matviyeva and Sofia Sirenko (PR-203B) stressed the historic significance of the December 1, 1991 referendum. "The all-Ukrainian referendum endowed the Verkhovna Rada's Act of Independence with legal force, which allowed us to assert that the Soviet Union as an object of international law has ceased to exist and a new independent state, Ukraine, has appeared on the political map of the world," they said. Students of PR-204B group Nadiya Zakharchuk, Albina Sharko told about the history of referendums, mentioned the first referendum in Switzerland in 1439, the People's Chamber in Kievan Rus (late X - early XI century), which some researchers call the prototype of the referendum . The speakers stressed that the 1991 referendum deserves special attention, as its results have formalized our independence and Ukraine has begun to be recognized by other countries.
Discussing student presentations, members of the jury of the Department of Constitutional and Administrative Law Olga Gusar, Irina Ustinova, Myroslava Olkhovik, led by the Dean of the Faculty of Law Irina Sopilko determined the winners of the competition: 1st place students PR-204B, 2nd place - students PR-203B, 3 place - students of groups PR-202B and PR-201B.
