On the occasion of the 80th anniversary of the Babi Yar tragedy, on September 30, 2021, students of the PR-202B group of the Faculty of Law, accompanied by their mentor Ganna Grabovskaya, listened to a lecture by a professor of law, an international lawyer from Great Britain, director of the Center for International Courts and Tribunals, Holocaust researcher, author of the book “East Western street. Return to Lviv (2016) - Philip Sands.
A lecture on the topic “Crime and Punishment. The Holocaust and the Formation of a Modern System of International Justice” was held at the Ukrainian State Museum of the Great Patriotic War.
Philip Sands told the audience about the historical significance of the Nuremberg Tribunal, noting that it was in this process that world-famous lawyers, graduates of Lviv University Rafael Lemkin and Lauterpacht developed the concept of "genocide" and "crimes against humanity", which are fundamental in the modern system of international justice.
At the end of the event, the professor presented unique artifacts - stripes with the "Star of David", which he handed over to the Museum and is today the central exhibit of the new exhibition "Holocaust". They help to present the tragedy of the Holocaust not only in the Ukrainian but also in the pan-European dimension.
