On April 2, 2021, a meeting of the Mediation Center was held by video conference to honor the liquidators of the Chernobyl accident, as well as to discuss environmental issues and the preservation of human health in the present.
Diana Ptitsa, a student of the PR-103b group, prepared a report and presentation on the topic "Chernobyl disaster: causes and consequences". The Chernobyl disaster, "the student noted," is an environmental and social catastrophe caused by the explosion and subsequent destruction of the fourth power unit of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant on the night of April 26, 1986, located on the territory of Ukraine. The destruction was explosive in nature, and the reactor was completely destroyed, which led to the release of significant amounts of radioactive substances into the atmosphere and the environment.
April 26 was the day of remembrance of the greatest man-made disaster and honoring the heroism of firefighters, operating personnel of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant, military personnel, builders, scientists, doctors who took part in the elimination of the consequences of the Chernobyl accident. The feat of these people is forever recorded in the Chronicle of human courage, it will forever remain in the memory of the Ukrainian people. On the occasion of the 35th anniversary of the Chernobyl tragedy, solemn and memorable events are held in our country: laying flowers, Requiem rallies, thematic exhibitions, etc. On this day, Diana addressed the audience, let's honor the liquidators for their courage and bravery! We convey our most sincere words of gratitude and bow to the ground for our high civic position and bow our heads to the bright memory of those whose lives were cut short by the deadly atom.
Since 1950, World Health Day has been celebrated annually on April 7, the day when the World Health Organization was founded within the United Nations. The purpose of the celebration is to emphasize the importance of the health of each person and humanity as a whole. After all, in our time, health is not only the absence of diseases, but also the physical, psychological, and social harmony of a person, his friendly attitude both to other people and to the environment. According to scientists, health depends on many factors: more than 50% of it is due to a person's lifestyle, about 40% – social and natural living conditions, 10% – is heredity. In addition, Daria revealed the negative impact of the Chernobyl disaster on human health and noted measures to preserve it in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.
At the end of the event, summing up the results, each of the participants noted that life and health are the most important values. In modern conditions, a healthy lifestyle and compliance with sanitary standards are among the most significant conditions and factors for the formation, preservation and promotion of health even in difficult environmental and socio-economic conditions, which ensures high efficiency, well-being, and effective adaptation to environmental changes.
