On February 1, 2021, a meeting of the Mediation Center dedicated to the International Mother Language Day and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Ukrainian poetess Lesya Ukrainka was held via videoconference.
Students of PR-107b group Alina Kosetska and Dmytro Lapin prepared an interesting and meaningful presentation on the occasion of the International Native Language Day, choosing as an epigraph to the speech a figurative statement of Lina Kostenko about the importance of language preservation: «Nations do not die of heart attack. First, he takes away their language.» During the report, Alina Kosetska told the story of the holiday, noting that the International Mother Language Day is a day celebrated in Ukraine every year on February 21, since 2000. This was announced at the XXX session of the General Conference of UNESCO "On the support of linguistic and cultural diversity and multilingualism", held in 1999 in Paris. In addition, the presentation reflects the history of writing, interesting facts about the Ukrainian language, its beauty and melodiousness. After all, our native language is recognized as the second most melodic after Italian and is one of the three most beautiful languages in the world. During the discussion, the participants identified the modern legal basis for the functioning of the Ukrainian language and analyzed the innovations of the Ukrainian orthography.
Natalia Galushko, a student of the PR-107b group, prepared a report and presentation on the topic «February 26 – 150 years since the birth of Lesya Ukrainka (1871-1913)», a well-known Ukrainian poetess who advocated the consolidation of the Ukrainian people into a political nation. Natalia spoke about the multi-faceted life and fruitful work of Lesya Ukrainka. After all, the creative heritage of the poetess is multi-genre: wonderful poetry, complex philosophical and psychological poems, brilliant dramatic works – such as «Cassandra», «Forest song», «Stone Master», «In the forest», «In the catacombs», «Orgy», «Blue Rose» – all these are masterpieces of world significance. Innovative prose, thoughtful literary and critical articles, highly artistic translations of the pearls of World Poetry, rich epistolary heritage-everywhere they have the national pride of Ukraine. The discussion of the report, during which participants quoted Lesya Ukrainka's poetry, also turned out to be interesting.
At the end of the event, Senior Mentor of the Faculty of Law, head of the Mediation Center Olena Makeeva noted that national and patriotic education is an important component of the organizational work of the Faculty of Law, the priority areas of which are the formation of national consciousness, a sense of patriotism, a communicative culture of the future legal elite, which will work for the benefit of independent Ukraine, asserting the rule of rights and freedoms of citizens.
