On February 2, 2021, within the framework of the cooperation agreement for students of the Faculty of Law, a training was held under the guidance of Joanna Osiejewicz, Associate Professor, Vice-Rector’s Proxy for International Cooperation at the University of Warsaw, Head of the International Legal Communication Research Center, PhD with habilitation (law), Attorney-at-law on the theme “Professional communications of a lawyer: effective and reasoned speech”.
One of the key points in the lawyer’s activity is speech and communication competencies, which became the main issue of training in terms of communication particularities in the study of legal subjects in English and the specifics of communication in English when working with consumers of legal services.
The students focused on the formation of doctrines about the generation of people and their impact on the construction of lawyer-client communication, the use of traditional and participatory models of communication with the client, communication by phone, e-mail, and SMS, writing letters, and practical aspects of communication between lawyers and the client, a head-an subordinate person. In addition, a separate item discusses the collection of evidence, interviewing witnesses and clients, the ability to ask questions, determine and present a chronology of events.
At the end of the event, Joanna Osiejewicz expressed her vision of the formation of an effective communication system in Ukraine, the main vector of which is the development of legal skills, taking into account the social characteristics of clients, body language, emotions, active listening, empathy and interest in building a lawyer, effective communication with the client.
