On December 16, 2020, the Faculty of Law, in cooperation with the Coordinating Council of Young Lawyers of Ukraine, took part in a legal discussion on the topic: "Protection of human rights in a pandemic: current challenges".
The scientific event took place in the form of a video conference on the ZOOM platform on the occasion of the International Human Rights Day and the All-Ukrainian Week of Law in order to form the legal culture of modern youth.
The Law Faculty of NAU co-organized the discussion together with the Coordinating Council of Young Lawyers of Ukraine; European University and the Institute for Political, Legal and Religious Studies. Among the participants of the discussion panel were the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the IX convocation, the Permanent Representative of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine, Doctor of Law Olga Sovhyria; Head of the Department of Theory and History of State and Law of the Institute of State and Law. V.M. Koretsky NAS of Ukraine, Doctor of Law, Academician of the National Academy of Legal Sciences of Ukraine Natalia Onishchenko; Vitaliy Zaporozhets, Head of the Department for Preliminary Consideration of Constitutional Complaints in the Constitutional Court of Ukraine; Candidate of Law, Associate Professor of Theory and History of State and Law, Associate Professor of the Faculty of Law of NAU Olena Makeyeva; representatives of other educational institutions, lawyers-practitioners and the chairman of the scientific society of students and graduate students of NAU Victoria Kirichenko.
The speakers of the event covered a number of important issues in the field of ensuring and protecting human rights in a pandemic, in particular: constitutional control of compliance with the Basic Law of Ukraine restrictions on human rights during quarantine, protection of social and labor rights during quarantine, discussed remote means of ensuring and protecting rights in a pandemic and the impact of quarantine restrictions on environmental rights, etc.
Based on the results of the legal discussion, the participants concluded that the outbreak of the pandemic had a cardinal impact on every aspect of human life. In this context, the issue of ensuring human rights has become acute in connection with the innovations that coronavirus disease has implemented in the lives of every citizen. Carrying out of scientific actions on actual subjects promotes formation of legal culture of a society, but also provides the decision of problems of protection of human rights in the period of a pandemic.
