On October 24, 2017, a successful lawyer from Texas, Mimi Coffey, Levitt Expert at the Institute for International Development (USA) talked with the students of the Educational and Scientific Law Institute of National Aviation University about the lawyer's skills. She also described the peculiarities of the formation and improvement of basic skills of lawyers at the stage of pre-trial investigation and during the court.
During the dialogue between lawyer and students, last ones had a great ability to express their own views on how to become a successful lawyer. Young people have demonstrated the understanding of current situation, in which new generation of lawyers growing in qualitatively new conditions of the legal services market, and it makes them think deeply about the issues of their contribution to the future of Ukraine. Students also discussed the specifics of the work of the jury in the United States, and possibilities of using the US experience in this area in Ukraine. By the way, during the conversation the issue of testimony of witnesses was considered, in particular, the inadmissibility of testimony from other people's words. At the same time students were able to try themselves as different participants in the trial. The effectiveness of this type of lesson is that students realized that law and legal practice in Ukraine are changing quite fast, so lawyers must maintain their professional skills on a regular basis, otherwise their competitiveness will be very low. Therefore, such classes for our students are very useful, as they teach them to be a great expert today, to be better than yesterday!
