On May 16, 2017, a meeting of students with the Director of the Information Agency "United Legal Aid Service" and a lawyer - Denis Osmolovsky took place at the Educational and Research Institute of Law.
The purpose of the event is to attract legal students to conduct a social and legal study on the topic "Lost opportunities as a result of excessive length of trial". During the conversation, the lawyer indicated that the Ukrainian legislation clearly regulates the timing of proceedings in courts of different jurisdictions, but in practice the plaintiffs constantly face violations of the right to a hearing within a reasonable time. "Despite the established responsibility for such violations, there are too few examples when justice was restored, and those responsible for delaying the consideration of court cases were punished," said Denis Osmolovsky. Usually, this is due to the fact that citizens do not dare complain about the employees of the judiciary, because they do not believe in the success of this statement. According to the conclusion of the specialists of this Service, the excessive length of the proceedings in court results in the loss of a number of their legal capacities by citizens, including the possibility to exercise their right. That is why an anonymous social survey can help to determine the level of work of the justice system in Kiev and to establish whether the time limits for the consideration of cases are violated in the legislation. The students of the Educational and Research Institute of Law were very interested in the topic of social and legal research, proposed by Denis Osmolovsky, and they offered their help in carrying out the questioning of citizens, which will take place next to the judicial institutions of the city of Kiev. After all, in their opinion, the results of the questionnaire will help to take certain measures against officials of the judicial branch of government, which improperly fulfill their professional duties and do not comply with the norms of the law, of which they are carriers.
