On December 9-10th, 2011 the Legal Institute students took part in the training “The Effective Defence and Assistance to the Victims of Violence in Family”, organized by the Ukrainian Helsinki Union Of Human Rights and the All-Ukrainian Association of Public Human Rights Organizations.
The training was held by Mariana Yevsyukova – the Director of the Legal Department of the International Women’s Rights Centre “La Strada – Ukraine”. The purpose of this event was professional training of the Legal Institute students to work as consultants on the questions of prevention of violence in family and providing legal assistance to the victims of such violence during their practice on the base of the International Women’s Human Rights Centre “La Strada – Ukraine”. During the training there were analyzed the qualitative and quantitative statistical indices of violence in family, determined the factors which are favorable to the spread of this negative social phenomenon in the Ukrainian society. Students reviewed the film “Women Who Are Beaten” and then discussed it in the light of national legislation and international standards in the sphere of counteraction to the violence in family. During the training the Legal Institute students received a unique opportunity to look through the analysis of practice of the UN Committee on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women and the European Court of Human Rights, examine cases of victims of violence in family and acquire practical skills in providing legal assistance to the victims of violence in family and realization of propagandist activity on prevention of violent actions in society.
